Louisville Bar to Recognize Carolyn Miller-Cooper

LOUISVILLE: On Thursday, February 16, the Louisville Bar Association’s Diversity Committee will hold a reception to honor Carolyn Miller-Cooper for her contributions to the promotion of racial diversity and justice within the legal community and beyond.

Miller-Cooper will be presented posthumously with the late Justice William E. McAnulty Jr. Trailblazer Award, named for the first African-American to serve on the Kentucky Supreme Court.

Miller-Cooper was the executive director of the Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission and a senior member of the Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer’s administration where she oversaw the agency that enforces anti-discrimination and civil rights laws. She began working for the old city of Louisville in 1998 and was inducted into the Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame in 2014.

She received numerous honors throughout her career and had served on the board of the Metropolitan Housing Coalition and also as a co-chair of the Fair Housing Coalition.

During the program, Central High School Law & Government essay contest winners and the recipient of this year’s Legal Opportunity Scholarship will also be recognized.

The program, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Louisville Bar Center, 600 W. Main St., Ste. 110.
