Your gifts to the Louisville Bar Foundation are an investment in justice and make a difference in helping to support charitable and educational law-related endeavors throughout the Louisville region. Charitable contributions to the Louisville Bar Foundation are tax deductible, as allowed by law. Below are some of the ways you can make a gift.
The Louisville Bar Foundation is grateful to those members of the Louisville Bar Association who contribute to the Foundation by including their gift when paying annual membership dues. All members of the Louisville Bar Association are encouraged to include a charitable contribution to the Foundation when paying your membership renewal dues each year. Your voluntary tax-deductible charitable contributions help the Foundation to award grants throughout the Louisville region to fund charitable and educational law-related programs that facilitate the delivery of legal services, improve the justice system and the law, increase public understanding of the law, and enhance professional competence and ethics.
Upcoming Birthday? Wedding? Firm Anniversary? Oftentimes there are occasions when you would like to do “something special” to celebrate a special occasion for a loved one or colleague. Making a contribution to the Louisville Bar Foundation in honor of a fiend, colleague or loved one on a special occasion is a fitting way to acknowledge the occasion and to support law-related charitable and educational programs. Examples of such occasions might include: the anniversary of a firm, the promotion of a colleague, or receiving a special professional honor or award.
The honoree will receive and acknowledgement of your gift, although the amount of your contribution will not be specified. In addition, such gift will be acknowledged in the Foundation’s Annual Report.
You can give a charitable contribution of the Louisville Bar Foundation as a fitting and lasting tribute to a deceased loved one or colleague. The family of the deceased will receive an acknowledgement of your gift, although the amount of your contribution will not be specified.
All lawyers, in whose name contributions are made, will be listed in the Foundation’s Memorial Book. The names of those for whom memory bequests or contributions in the amount of $10,000 or more are made, will be recognized in a plaque at the Louisville Bar Center. Such gifts will also be acknowledged in the Foundation’s Annual Report.
Unrestricted gifts to the Foundation support the charitable work of the Foundation and allow the board of trustees to make strategic investments in community needs through its annual grant process or through other special initiatives. The Foundation welcomes gifts from individuals, corporations, law firms, and others to advance its mission.
The Foundation is uniquely positioned to work with the lawyer or family in designing a gift arraignment that honors a lifetime of achievements and service in the legal profession. A bar foundation can steward gifts, invest in projects that align with the donor’s interest, and continue the donor’s legacy in promoting justice. While these “legacy funds” recognize a person’s past contribution to the law, they also serve to advance the community for generations to come. The LBF welcomes the opportunity to work with lawyers and families to integrate charitable planning options into the estate planning objectives or to establish memorial funds. The Fellows Program of the Louisville Bar Foundation is designed to build the Foundation's endowment. The endowment presently has assets of $2.9 million and distributes more than $100,000 annually in grants to local not-for-profit organizations for the delivery of legal services to the poor, improvement of the judiciary, or law-related public education. Since its inception, the LBF has awarded more than $2.7 million in grants to fund law-related programs in our community.
Fellows Program participants are generous individuals who have made a one-time gift or pledge of $1,000 or more to the Foundation's endowment. LBA members may become LBF Fellows by pledging $250 per year over a four-year period. The Foundation recognizes its Fellows in various promotional materials and invites Fellows to special events throughout the year. To see a list of current Fellows, click HERE.
